Amenity is the first release of Delain. It dates back to 2002, only a short time after Martijn had to leave Within Temptation. So we’re talking here about the genesis of Delain. Because if we know for a fact that before it became a band, Delain was first a project with guest musicians gathered around Martijn and Charlotte, we can ignore that at the very beginning, Delain was in fact a band! However, it’s very difficult to find information concerning this nonetheless excellent auto produced demo…

Those four tracks are very close to the style of Within Temptation’s first productions (Enter and The Dance) but we can already feel the Delain touch. Indeed, we already have there three songs that will be featured later in Lucidity (but in very different versions). Maniken can be seen as the demo version of Daylight Lucidity, Amenity as the demo version of Silhouette Of A Dancer, and Predestined Lives evokes Frozen.

In this demo CD, Anne Invernizzi is the singer. She has a very interesting voice, and her style can sometimes call to mind Charlotte’s one. And finally we have a guest musician who will appear again later on Lucidity: George Oosthoek, ex-Orphanage.
